How to Update What Your Agent Says

Time: about 2 minutes.

Go to Agent, choose the agent you want to change, make your edits, and press Update.

First, check your organization settings

Most of what your agent knows does not live on the agent page. Service times, staff, ministries, and everything scraped from your website come from your organization settings.

So if your agent is giving out a wrong service time, the fix is in organization settings, not here. The agent page controls how your agent speaks. Organization settings control what it knows.

What you can change on the agent

First Message. The greeting every caller hears. Keep the part that identifies your agent as a digital assistant on a recorded line — disclosure is the honest thing to do, and callers are fine with it. Our position statement on disclosure explains why we default to it.

Priority Instructions. Temporary emphasis. An upcoming event, a closure, something you want mentioned on every call. You have 500 characters. Clear it out when the event passes, or your agent will still be promoting last month's potluck.

Preferred Call Length. How quickly your agent wraps up a conversation. Most churches use three minutes.

Main Church Line. Where callers go if your agent is busy or your minutes run out. This is also your fallback number. Make sure it is not a line that forwards back to your agent — if it does, transferred calls will fail.

If your church information changed

New staff member, new service time, new ministry — update your organization settings rather than the agent. Staff changes go in your ministry team. If you have updated your website, you can re-scrape it to pull the new information in.
